ARCHAIA

Verónica Losantos

During the '60 a large number of dams and reservoirs were built in Spain. One of them was located in Mansilla de la Sierra (La Rioja), forcing local people to relocate in a newly-built village and therefore being obliged to leave their homes.

From this new human settlement, the reservoir can always be seen and during the autumn season the ruins of the ancient village emerge as the water recedes.

“ARCHAIA” is a photo essay about the idea of ‘the missing’ by using elements such as the collective memory, the function of photography as an evidence in archeology and its capacity for keeping vestiges remain, if only in a visual way.

RITUAL FRAGMENTS

Carlos Ramírez - "Zorromono"

Zorromono’s work takes a dual-pronged approach. By using an ancient stable and the adjoining traditional wash-house he creates a dialectic between the private and the public, generating contrasts and connections at the same time. Potent, yet everyday spaces, witnesses of our past toiling and long-disappeared collective rituals. They tell us about our past, while their disruptive presence in the present impels us to rethink our plans for the future.
